Machu Picchu 1 Day

Located 110 Km (68 miles) northwest of the city of Cusco, at an altitude of 2,400 meter (7,874 ft) above sea level, this Inca Citadel was recognized as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage by UNESCO in 1983. Nowadays, considered one of the world’s new wonders, Machu Picchu is assuredly the icon that sums up the greatness of the ancient Peruvians. The ruin complex is located at the foot of the mountain of the same name, which in Quechua (Inca’s native language) means “Old Mountain”. In front of it, stands the majestic peak of Huayna Picchu (“Young Mountain” in Quechua). In the valley, some 400 meters (1,300 ft) below runs the Vilcanota River.
